The Hex Guitars Standard
Hex Guitars is the South Korean team behind HILS Guitars, its international sister brand. Before building instruments under its own name, Hex spent the early 2000s onward manufacturing guitars for other established brands - experience it has since funneled into its own factory in Indonesia. The HZ8 belongs to HILS's NEXT series of headless instruments, sold internationally through HILS's own storefronts and distributors rather than Hex's domestic Korean catalog, but built in the same factory to the same standard as the rest of the Hex and HILS lineup.
Engineered With Purpose
A Headpiece Built For All 8 Strings
The 8-string locking headpiece handles tuning for every string at the bridge end since there's no headstock, with individual locking points sized and spaced for the full 8-string width.
Rail Humbuckers Built For Clarity
Custom passive rail humbuckers at neck and bridge are voiced to keep note definition on the widest, lowest strings, where a standard humbucker can start to sound muddy, and are wired to a simple 3-way selector with a push-pull coil-split.
A Neck Built For Extended Range
A 5-piece roasted maple and walnut neck in a D profile, 56.9mm at the nut, is built wide enough to give all 8 strings usable spacing without the neck feeling unwieldy.

HN3 BAR and HZ8 are both HILS NEXT headless instruments built for registers a standard 6-string guitar doesn't cover, but they solve it differently: HN3 BAR uses a longer fixed baritone scale for lower tuning on 6 strings, while HZ8 adds two extra strings on a multi-scale neck for extended range without necessarily tuning as low overall on the top strings.
