A Top That Sounds Played-In

Crafter: Korean Guitar Making Since 1972
Crafter began in April 1972 as SungEum Guitars - SungEum means "perfect sound" - when Park Hyun-Kwon set up a workshop with four craftsmen in a basement room of his home in Seoul. The workshop moved to Yangju in Gyeonggi Province in 1978, the CRAFTER name arrived in 1988, and by 1992 the company had settled the signature headstock, Dovetail Extension neck joint and inlay work that still define its guitars. Now run by the founder's grandson as Crafter Korea, it exports to more than 50 countries and keeps its headquarters, high-end production line and official after-sales service in Yangju. Each guitar is built in a climate-controlled workshop held at around 22 degrees C and 50 percent humidity, and recent Crafter developments include the VVS torrefied top, the DS-2 Pro electronics and the Stealth Tuner.
Engineered With Purpose
VVS: Crafter's Vintage Voicing System
VVS is Crafter's own torrefaction process, introduced in 2020. The solid spruce top is carefully roasted at a controlled mid-high temperature over time, which removes residual moisture and strengthens the wood's cell structure. In Crafter's words the result is deeper lows, enhanced sustain and improved overall volume, plus a warmer, more vintage colour to the top. The bracing follows Crafter's own signature pattern, refined since the 1980s.
Macassar Ebony Back And Sides
The back and sides are layered Macassar ebony, a dense tonewood with bold dark-and-amber striping. Laminated back and sides keep the body stable through India's swings between dry winters and humid monsoons, while the solid top does the work of shaping the tone. Rosewood binding and a slim Professional Armrest on the lower bout make long sets more comfortable.
DS-2 Pro+ Duo-Source Electronics And Stealth Tuner
The DS-2 Pro+ is mounted inside the soundhole, so there is no control panel cut into the side. It combines Crafter's Platform under-saddle pickup with a miniature electret condenser mic on a flexible gooseneck, with Volume, Blend, Clarity and Phase controls. Mic level is capped at half the pickup output to keep feedback in check. The Stealth Tuner sits in the soundhole too: accurate to 0.5 cent, it shows all 12 notes, turns green when in tune, works with or without a cable plugged in and switches itself off after 7 minutes.
Authentic Head With Gold 21:1 Tuners
Crafter's Authentic headstock carries gold 21:1 ratio tuners for fine, stable tuning, on an African mahogany neck joined with Crafter's Dovetail Extension joint. Indian rosewood is used for the fingerboard and bridge, with ebony bridge pins and a 648mm (25.5-inch) scale for a full, punchy string tension.
