Acoustic-Electric Guitars

Want a guitar you can take everywhere without settling for a thin, toy-like travel sound - the MINO ALK packs a solid koa top, a deep compact body and stage-ready electronics into a short-scale guitar.

Made for travellers, couch and practice players, smaller-framed players and singer-songwriters who want a second guitar that still sounds like a real one. It is at home on flights, in cafes and on small stages, and the padded bag and built-in tuner mean it is ready to go.

Best Feature

Solid Flamed Koa In A Deep Mino Body

The MINO ALK pairs a solid flamed Taiwan koa top with Crafter's Mino body, which is compact in outline but deep, with bracing modelled on full-size guitars. Koa gives a sweet, articulate voice focused on the highs and mids, and the deep body adds sustain and volume, so it sounds rich rather than boxy. The flamed grain across the top, back and sides makes it one of the best-looking guitars in Crafter's range.

Why You'll Love It

Most small guitars sound small. The MINO ALK is built differently - a compact body with full-size depth and bracing, a solid koa top and stage-ready electronics, in a guitar you can carry anywhere.

01

Big Sound From A Small Body

Crafter designed the Mino with a thick body depth and bracing similar to its full-size shapes, so it keeps long sustain and ample volume while staying compact enough for flights, couches and cramped stages.

02

Flamed Koa, Top To Back

A solid flamed acacia top - Taiwan koa, a close relative of Hawaiian koa - with matching flamed koa back, sides, binding and armrest. It sounds sweet and articulate, with emphasis on the highs and mids, and looks stunning in natural satin.

03

Plug In Anywhere

The DS-2 Pro+ blends an under-saddle pickup with a gooseneck condenser mic for a natural plugged-in sound, and the soundhole Stealth Tuner keeps you in tune with or without a cable. No hole is cut in the side.

Crafter: Korean Guitar Making Since 1972

Crafter began in April 1972 as SungEum Guitars - SungEum means "perfect sound" - when Park Hyun-Kwon set up a workshop with four craftsmen in a basement room of his home in Seoul. The workshop moved to Yangju in Gyeonggi Province in 1978, the CRAFTER name arrived in 1988, and by 1992 the company had settled the signature headstock, Dovetail Extension neck joint and inlay work that still define its guitars. Now run by the founder's grandson as Crafter Korea, it exports to more than 50 countries and keeps its headquarters, high-end production line and official after-sales service in Yangju. Each guitar is built in a climate-controlled workshop held at around 22 degrees C and 50 percent humidity, and recent Crafter developments include the VVS torrefied top, the DS-2 Pro electronics and the Stealth Tuner.

Crafter MINO ALK compact Mino body with solid flamed koa top

The Mino Body: Compact, But Deep

Launched in 2020 and developed under Crafter's third-generation leadership, the Mino shape keeps a compact outline but uses a thick body depth and bracing patterned on standard-size guitars. That combination is what gives it the sustain and volume most travel guitars lack. A wooden armrest on the lower bout and a short 590mm (23.2-inch) scale make it easy and comfortable to play.

Crafter MINO ALK flamed koa back and acacia binding

Solid Flamed Taiwan Koa (Acacia)

The top is solid flamed acacia from Taiwan, also known as Taiwan koa. Crafter describes it as a distant relative of Hawaiian koa that offers its sweet look and sound, and as a dense hardwood with emphasis on the high and mid tones. The back and sides are layered flamed acacia for a matching look and stability in changing humidity, finished with acacia binding and a satin top over open-pore back and sides.

DS-2 Pro+ Duo-Source Electronics And Stealth Tuner

The DS-2 Pro+ combines Crafter's Platform under-saddle pickup with a miniature electret condenser mic on a flexible gooseneck, controlled from the soundhole edge: Volume, Blend, a Clarity mid-cut button for strumming and a Phase button against feedback. The mic is limited to half the pickup level to keep feedback down, and it picks up taps and percussive playing well. The Stealth Tuner is accurate to 0.5 cent, shows all 12 notes, lights green when in tune and switches off after 7 minutes.

Vintage Slotted Head And Open-Gear Tuners

A vintage slotted headstock with vintage-style open-gear tuners gives the MINO ALK a classic parlour look. Underneath is an African mahogany neck with an Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge, a maple butterfly inlay, a 43mm resin nut and Crafter's 7-bar compensated saddle.

Procraft Insight All Mino models share the same compact body, neck, slotted head and DS-2 Pro+ electronics - the woods set the voice. The ALK's all-koa build is the sweetest and most articulate, with a striking flamed look. The spruce-topped Mino Mahogany and Mino Rose are brighter and more neutral, with rosewood adding deeper bass. If you want the same koa build at full 25.5-inch scale, step up to the Grand Mino ALK.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Crafter MINO ALK solid koa?
The top is solid flamed acacia, also called Taiwan koa. The back and sides are layered (laminated) flamed acacia, which matches the look of the top and keeps the body stable in changing humidity.
Is Taiwan koa the same as Hawaiian koa?
Not exactly. Crafter describes Taiwan acacia as a distant relative of Hawaiian koa that offers its sweet appearance and sound. It is a dense hardwood with emphasis on the high and mid tones.
How small is the MINO ALK?
It has a 590mm (23.2-inch) scale, compared with 648mm on a typical full-size acoustic, and a compact Mino body. Unlike most travel guitars, the body is deep, with bracing modelled on Crafter's standard-size guitars for more volume and sustain.
Is the MINO ALK a good travel guitar?
Yes. It is compact, comes with a padded gig bag, has a built-in tuner, and plugs straight into an amp or PA. Avoid leaving it in a hot car or boot, as heat can damage any solid-top guitar.
Does it come with a case?
Yes, it ships in a padded Crafter gig bag with shoulder straps, so it is ready to travel.
What does EQ mean - does it have a pickup?
Yes. EQ refers to the built-in Crafter DS-2 Pro+ electronics: an under-saddle pickup blended with a gooseneck condenser mic, with Volume, Blend, Clarity and Phase controls on the soundhole edge, plus a soundhole-mounted Stealth Tuner.
How does the Stealth Tuner work?
Press its on/off button inside the soundhole. It is accurate to 0.5 cent, shows all 12 notes, turns from white to green when you are in tune, works without a cable plugged in and switches itself off after 7 minutes.
How do I avoid feedback when playing live?
Use the Phase button to flip polarity if you hear feedback, press Clarity to cut boomy mids when strumming, and keep the mic blend moderate. Crafter already limits the mic to half the pickup level, and you should avoid pointing speakers at the guitar.
Is the MINO ALK good for smaller players or beginners?
Yes. The short 590mm scale means lower string tension and shorter stretches between frets, and the compact body is easier to hold, which suits smaller-framed players, younger learners and anyone who finds a dreadnought bulky. It is still tuned to standard E-A-D-G-B-E.
What strings does it use?
It ships with Crafter GLOW-AL .012 - .053 light gauge strings, and takes any standard light-gauge acoustic set when it is time to change them.
What is the difference between the MINO ALK and the Grand Mino ALK?
Both have a solid flamed koa top with layered koa back and sides and DS-2 Pro+ electronics. The Grand Mino ALK has a larger body between the Mino and an orchestra size, and a full 648mm (25.5-inch) scale for a punchier sound and deeper mids.
How should I care for it in Indian weather?
Crafter recommends keeping it at 20 to 25 degrees C and 45 to 55 percent humidity. Store it in its bag with a humidity pack during the monsoon, keep it out of direct sun and away from AC vents, and unplug the cable after playing to save the preamp battery.
