Acoustic Guitars

Outgrown your first guitar and want a real solid-top sound without overspending - the LITE D-16 gives you solid Alpine spruce, dreadnought volume and a padded bag in the box.

Made for improving beginners, students and singer-songwriters who mostly strum and want a louder, clearer, more responsive guitar for home, classes and casual gigs. It is purely acoustic, has a standard full-size feel and comes in natural satin.

Best Feature

Solid European Alpine Spruce Top

The top is the part of an acoustic guitar that makes most of the sound, and on the LITE D-16 it is a single solid piece of Alpine spruce rather than laminated layers. Solid spruce moves more freely, giving a clearer, more powerful and more open sound, and it keeps maturing the longer you play it. The thin satin open-pore finish lets it resonate even more.

Why You'll Love It

The LITE D-16 is the guitar to buy when you are ready to step up from an all-laminate starter guitar to a solid top, without paying for features you do not need yet.

01

A Solid Top That Gets Better With Age

The top is solid Alpine spruce harvested in the European Alps, not a laminate. Solid spruce gives a clear, powerful voice and keeps opening up and maturing the more you play it - the biggest single upgrade over a beginner guitar.

02

Big Dreadnought Volume

The full dreadnought body delivers the volume and low-end punch strummers want, while layered African mahogany back and sides add warmth and a balanced midrange and keep the body stable through changing seasons.

03

A Finish You Can Feel

A thin satin open-pore finish covers the whole guitar, so the wood can resonate freely and you can feel the grain under your hand. Rounded binding edges keep it comfortable on your arm through long sessions.

Crafter: Korean Guitar Making Since 1972

Crafter began in April 1972 as SungEum Guitars - SungEum means "perfect sound" - when Park Hyun-Kwon set up a workshop with four craftsmen in a basement room of his home in Seoul. The workshop moved to Yangju in Gyeonggi Province in 1978, the CRAFTER name arrived in 1988, and by 1992 the company had settled the signature headstock, Dovetail Extension neck joint and inlay work that still define its guitars. Now run by the founder's grandson as Crafter Korea, it exports to more than 50 countries and keeps its headquarters, high-end production line and official after-sales service in Yangju. Each guitar is built in a climate-controlled workshop held at around 22 degrees C and 50 percent humidity, and recent Crafter developments include the VVS torrefied top, the DS-2 Pro electronics and the Stealth Tuner.

Crafter LITE D-16 solid Alpine spruce top, soundhole and rosewood fingerboard

Solid European Alpine Spruce Top

Every LITE series guitar is built around a solid top of selected Alpine spruce, which Crafter describes as giving a powerful, open sound with clear resolution. Because it is a single solid piece of wood rather than layers, the top vibrates more freely and its tone continues to mature with years of playing.

Crafter LITE D-16 African mahogany back and neck

African Mahogany Back, Sides And Neck

The back and sides are layered African mahogany, with a solid African mahogany neck. Mahogany adds warmth and a rounded midrange beneath the bright spruce top, and laminated back and sides hold up well to the humidity swings of Indian summers and monsoons. Black ABS binding with rounded edges protects the body.

Crafter LITE D-16 Essential Head with chrome open-gear tuners

Essential Head And Open-Gear Tuners

The LITE D-16 wears Crafter's minimalist Essential Head, introduced in 2024, with a gold Crafter logo and chrome open-gear tuners. On the back of the headstock a Heritage Banner Plate reads 'Handcrafted Since 1972'.

Procraft Insight Every LITE model shares the same solid Alpine spruce top, mahogany back and sides and satin open-pore finish - the choice is about body and features. The D-16 is the loudest and fullest, built for strumming and singing along. Pick the D-16CE if you need a cutaway and a pickup for stage use, the smaller T-16 orchestra body for fingerstyle comfort, or the G-16C grand auditorium cutaway for an all-rounder with upper-fret access.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Crafter LITE D-16 a solid top guitar?
Yes. The top is solid Alpine spruce, which Crafter calls its most accessible solid top series. The back and sides are layered (laminated) African mahogany, a common pairing that gives a solid-top sound while keeping the body stable in changing humidity.
What case comes with the LITE D-16?
It comes in Crafter's M Line soft gig bag with 18mm foam padding, a carry handle, shoulder straps and front pockets - enough protection for carrying it to classes, jams and gigs.
Does the LITE D-16 have a pickup?
No, the D-16 is a purely acoustic guitar. If you want to plug in, the LITE D-16CE is the same guitar with a cutaway and a Crafter PL-T NV preamp with a built-in LCD tuner.
Where is the Crafter LITE D-16 made?
It is designed and quality-controlled by Crafter Korea and crafted in China, as stated on Crafter's own Korean store listing for this model.
How does the LITE D-16 sound?
Crafter describes the LITE series as powerful and open. The solid Alpine spruce top brings clarity and projection, the mahogany back and sides add warmth and a balanced midrange, and the dreadnought body gives plenty of volume and low end for strumming.
Is the LITE D-16 good for beginners?
Yes, especially for a committed beginner or anyone upgrading from a first guitar. You get a solid top that improves with playing, a standard 25.5-inch scale and 43mm nut, and a padded bag in the box. Smaller players may find the orchestra-body LITE T-16 more comfortable.
What does a satin open-pore finish mean?
It is a thin, matte finish that does not fill the wood's pores, so you can feel the grain. A thinner finish lets the top resonate more freely, and it does not show fingerprints the way gloss does.
What are the scale length and nut width?
The scale length is 648mm (25.5 inches) and the nut is 43mm wide, a standard full-size dreadnought feel. Some earlier production LITE D-16 units used a 646mm scale and 42mm nut.
What strings are fitted from the factory?
Crafter GLOW-AL coated 85/15 bronze strings in light gauge, .012 - .053. Crafter recommends light gauge strings for its acoustics.
What is the difference between the LITE D-16 and LITE T-16?
Only the body shape. The D-16 is a full dreadnought for maximum volume and bass, while the T-16 is a smaller orchestra (OM-style) body that sits more comfortably and has a more focused, balanced sound for fingerstyle.
What colours is the LITE D-16 available in?
It comes in Natural only, showing the pale Alpine spruce top against the darker African mahogany back and sides, with black binding and a gold Crafter logo on the headstock.
How should I look after a solid top guitar in India?
Crafter recommends keeping it at 20 to 25 degrees C and 45 to 55 percent humidity. Keep it away from direct sun and AC vents, store it in its bag with a humidity pack during the monsoon, and loosen the strings by about a whole step if you will not play it for a long time.
